Meet Therese Clark and Christine Watson, the women who created mybody skincare, a health-driven company developed for women. We've tapped into the body's power to create effective skincare products that safely mimic how the body repairs, defends and heals itself to reclaim balance. Since the health of the skin is reflected by many factors, the key to balance is to support a healthier relationship between the mind, body and the skin – one that is integrative, positive and whole.
We understand the journey to health is different for every women. We have compiled a few mySKIN Stories that inspired us in hopes to encourage you to embrace your imperfections, and understand safe effective ingredients can make a difference. If you would like to share your SKIN Story with us, please email your story to Natalie at firstname.lastname@example.org
Celiac disease is a condition that damages the lining of the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing parts of food that are important for staying healthy. The damage is due to a reaction to eating gluten, which is found in wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats.
6 years ago, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I felt tired all the time, I had bowel issues, and my body was not absorbing the proper nutrients I needed. I could see the effects on my skin and my body and my overall sense of well-being was diminishing. I felt awful. After I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, I felt a sense of relief because I finally knew what was wrong, and was given a few steps to try to feel better. Because of this autoimmune disease, I had to make some life changes. I went on a strict gluten free diet, while also cutting out gluten in every other aspect of my life such as my skincare and bodycare. Now, I must be vigilant about the food I consume and the skincare and bodycare I use. With a compromised immune system I truly understand the need for safe, effective skincare that will not further disrupt my hormonal balance.
Eczema symptoms include itchy, red, and dry skin caused by inflammation. It is also called atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is a long-term (chronic) skin disorder that involves scaly and itchy rashes. Other forms of eczema include: Contact dermatitis; Dyshidrotic eczema; Nummular eczema; Seborrheic dermatitis.
For the last ten years I have struggled with atopic dermatitis. The skin on my body and face has always been extremely sensitive and highly allergic to almost everything. I started seeing an acupuncturist who diagnosed me with extreme adrenal fatigue. My immune system had been compromised by stress, fatigue, diet, and this caused my atopic dermatitis to worsen. The paradox was that the more skincare I tried, the worse my skin was becoming. My hands were so dry and cracked they would bleed. The ingredients in my previous skincare were adding to my compromised immune system and making my skin worse. Any fragrance, allergen or astringent burned my skin. I realized not all skin care “cares” for my skin and as I became more aware of what ingredients were irritating my skin, my options were becoming more and more limited. Since I am in the beauty industry, it was important to me to not only have good skin, but be able to stand behind a brand that put the time and research into providing better solutions.
I started using mybody about a year ago, and my skin has never looked better. Finally, a bath + shower gel and body lotion with fragrance that did not irritate my skin! After a month of using the shower gel and body lotion, my skin was soft again, the rough texture was gone, the redness was better, and I had safer and effecitve products that I was excited to use!
Graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder that leads to overactivity of the thyroid gland. Because thyroid hormones affect a number of different body systems, signs and symptoms associated with Graves' disease can be wide ranging and significantly influence your overall well-being.
I was diagnosed with severe Graves' disease and hyperthyroidism at 36. Several doctors missed the signs early on causing the disease to become so bad so quickly that I had no option but to receive radioiodine treatment, which destroys the thyroid gland. Now, for the rest of my life I will have to take prescription Synthroid® every morning to replace the hormones that my body no longer generates. With the hormonal imbalances caused by prescriptions and stress, I noticed now, on top of everything else, my skin was breaking out.
I have been very lucky to have "good skin" so these breakouts were becoming a major concern to me, something just didn't seem normal. I was already struggling with the fact that once I lost my thyroid, I no longer had a functioning metabolism which causes weight gain and no matter what you eat or the amount of exercise you put your body through, you cannot control the weight gain. Beside the weight issue, my hair was thinning and falling out, and the Graves' disease caused the tissue behind the eyes to become inflamed and swollen, causing my eyes to bulge. Basically, I had a lot of issues to deal with at once and the breaking out seemed like such an easy issue to address. I visited several doctors about my skin, from an endocrinologist to a dermatologist, referring to the fact that once I started on Synthroid my skin broke out. One dermatologist told me that I had "adult acne" and that they did not believe there is any correlation between the prescriptions and my skin breaking out. I was written a prescription for a basic retin-A product, which made me feel like the dermatologist wasn't listening to me and just gave me a "one size fits all" product, those with a thyroid problem and those without. I never filled the prescription because I already knew it would be too harsh for my skin and I still felt that "adult acne" was not the right diagnoses.
I started using mybody products several weeks after the birth of my daughter and I have had great success. My skin seems back to its "normal" state. I no longer break out, and the slight discoloration I had from being pregnant was gone within 2 months. I have become a huge believer in the PROBIOTIC YOUTHBOOST treatments, they really have balanced out my skin tone, diminished any breaking out and brought back the "glowiness" that had dulled over the years. My skin has become the least of my issues that I battle internally on a daily basis. Now if mybody could get my two-year old from leaving toothpaste on my favorite jeans...
As a mature woman my skin has gone through many changes. Most recently, I have noticed significant thinning, dryness, redness and a dull look to my skin. I have tried many over the counter products, the most expensive creams, and serums anything I could to avoid surgery. Nothing was giving me the profound results I was looking for until I found out about mybody. mybody skincare gave me the results I wanted without the typical redness of medical skincare options, and what I really liked was their safety profile. After losing my mother to Cancer, I became much more aware of what I put in and on my body.
The awareness we now have around diet, lifestyle and overall well-being puts us in better control of our health. It's also empowering to know we can live longer and be happier when we are able to make choices to help ourselves and I appreciate that mybody gives us more knowledge to make better lifestyle choices and helps us choose a remedy that better suits our healthy expectations for ourselves.
I am 7½ months pregnant and my skin is experiencing changes, and is reacting to products differently since I became pregnant. I have been breaking out with acne, rashes and I wasn't sure what to do. I felt helpless, with so many changes, so quickly.
Being pregnant, I there are limits to the products I can use, so I was worried I was stuck with awful skin for the duration of my pregnancy. I tried some pregnancy specific brand products only to experience a worsening of my skin conditions. All the essential oils and plant extracts were causing irritation. I then switched my routine to a specific combination of mybody products and the rashes and acne began to clear up quickly. With pregnancy comes an array of hormonal changes! This is supposed to be a beautiful, special time in a woman's life and, of course, we want our skin to reflect this. At first, I figured I would be one of those women who just never got the "pregnancy glow", but now that my skin is back in balance it's nice to see that I do have that glow.
Vitiligo is a condition in which the pigment is lost from areas of the skin, causing whitish patches, often with no clear cause.
26 years ago I moved to Arizona. About a year later, I developed a condition called Vitiligo, which caused spots to appear on my hands, neck, elbow, knees, and started to quickly spread to all parts of my body. As my body started to change, I was devastated. I always had good skin and this sudden change was taking a toll on me emotionally. I was a nurse and around people all day using my hands to work and teach patients. I was extremely conscious of my condition and went to great pains using heavy cosmetics and self-tanning products to minimize the demarcation on my skin. I enjoyed being outside with my family (one of the reasons for moving to AZ from MN) and now I had to be extremely careful to prevent sunburns.
I prayed to God it would not spread to my face and fortunately it stopped at my neck. I was so self-conscious that I saw multiple dermatologists who treated me with tar therapies (what a sticky mess that was) and suggested a small amount of sun exposure with the thought that the sun would help to re-pigment the skin. I also had a plastic surgeon attempt to do a tattooing, but it was unsightly and eventually excised. Nothing helped me and eventually, I accepted my diagnosis and stopped seeing the doctors, however, good skincare was essential to my lifestyle.
As a nurse, I have always been concerned with health and wellness and I am thrilled that mybody has committed to maintaining a safety profile that surpasses so many other companies. The fact that I can not only protect my skin with safe ingredients, but also stimulate it to function more effectively and efficiently with biomimetic ingredients is a winning combination.
I am also excited to report that since beginning to work at mybody over 2 years ago, my Vitiligo has almost disappeared. Many of my white patches have re-pigmented and I am no longer seeking out clothes and makeup to "hide" my disease. THANK YOU mybody!!
